Fr. Paul Nesta, Priest

In addition to preaching and overseeing the ministries at St. Paul’s, Fr. Paul is known to have some pretty crazy ideas that are often met with rolled eyes. He’s passionate about the welfare of La Porte and engaging the community with the good news of God in the person of Jesus. If you want to meet up with him, your best bet is to stop into Temple News Agency for a cup of coffee. Rumor has it they are considering building him his own office there.

If you were a Muppet, which one would you be and why?

My wife is convinced I would be Fozzie Bear, because at heart I’m a bit of a goofball. Unlike Fozzie Bear, though, I’m actually quite funny. Right Cyndi? … Cyndi?

The most exciting thing about being a priest is the chance to witness the transformation God is doing in the lives of people I encounter on a daily basis. There is nothing like engaging and equipping people to use their gifts and abilities in service to God and others.

I think my husband nailed it when he compared me to Miss Piggy—“Sweet to the outside world, yells at Kermit a lot.” I’m still laughing at that one.

Cheddar Cheese—which, surprisingly ranks as the #1 flavor of all 29 flavors of Pringles. Yes, I looked it up.

What is the worst gift you have ever received?

I honestly can’t think of the worst gift I ever received.  However, I can think of a gift that I asked for every year and never received, which was a trampoline. A few years ago my parents bought one for my daughter who never asked for it. In all honesty, I think it’s rather funny now. And Yes! I was the first one to jump on it.

When you were five years old, what did you want to be?

At five years old, I was in Kindergarten and I may have wanted to be a teacher at that time doing what my teachers did for me when I grew up. I also remember wanting to be a Marine Biologist. I wanted to swim with the dolphins and killer whales.

What excites you most about your position at St. Paul’s?

The thing that excites me most about my job at St. Paul’s are the opportunities I have to help people, which is a natural joy for my personality type (I’m a Number 2 on the Enneagram).
