Advent Quiet Day - Preparing to Meet our Lord - December 16, 2023

St. Paul’s La Porte welcomes you to join us for an Advent Quiet Day

On Saturday December 16th from 9:45-3:30 CT

Presented by Mother Debra Susannah Mary Rhodes, CMMR

PREPARING TO MEET OUR LORD:

Readying our hearts for God by healing our hearts through God by uniting our hearts to God in the mystical love of his crucified heart

Through silence, including prayer, meditation, Scripture, personal expression of experience (through journaling, drawing, etc.) and some group sharing we will open our hearts to receive Christ as we await his arrival: as a newborn baby on Christmas Day, as Lord and King of the Universe on the day of the Resurrection, and as his Body and Blood each time we celebrate the Eucharist. The morning session will be about claiming our identities as beloved children of God and healing our own wounds; during the afternoon session we will work on forgiveness of others.

Lunch is included, and there is no fee, but donations are gratefully accepted. Please RSVP to motherdebbi@gmail.com by December 8th so we can plan accordingly.

First Friday Concert Series - October 6, 2023

Our October First Friday Concert, scheduled for 12:10pm on Friday October 6th, will feature piano duets from Donovan Diedrich and his teacher Joan Davis. Donovan is a LaPorte native who has been playing for 13 years, with his same instructor!

Joan Davis grew up learning piano from her grandmother in Colorado. A graduate of the University of Wyoming with a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music Education and Theatre Arts, Joan moved to this area in 1985, and began teaching voice and piano to all ages in 1991. She joined the sales and teaching staff at Roxy Music in LaPorte in 2006. In addition to teaching, Joan has played, directed choirs, and sung at area churches and on praise teams since 1998. She has been on the LaPorte County Symphony Board of Directors since 2019. However, her principal passion remains getting youngsters excited about studying music, so she is truly thrilled to be playing with Donovan Diedrich, a student who has far surpassed her in his ability to play piano, and yet still allows her to play with him regularly!

They will play the Music of Leroy Anderson on One Piano/Four Hands:
